Men's Lacrosse Falls to Marymount

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team fell to Marymount 10-7 on Saturday.

How It Happened
  • Marymount got on the board first after the teams traded chances. MU tagged on to the lead just under four minutes in to make it 2-0 and quickly flipped the field after an Owen Cogan shot was turned away to take a three-goal lead wih 9:29 to go in the first quarter. MU capitalized on a man-up opportunity to make it 4-0, but a second-chance effort by Luke Wendler got BC on the board with under five minutes to play in the quarter. BC had a solid chance nearing the end of the frame but two shots missed wide and a third rang the post to send it to the second quarter at 4-1.
  • Both teams traded chances in the second quarter, but both defenses stood tall. Bridgewater killed off a pair of MU man-up chances, but shortly after Mu ended the scoring drought with a score with 3:15 to go in the half to make it 5-1. BC responded right off the faceoff as Alex Garbarino fired his close-range shot home to make it 5-2. The Saints responded with a score quickly to stretch the led back to four goals, but a caused turnover by Jackson Wicker flipped the field for BC just before the half. Wendler capitalized for the Eagles with 16 seconds on the clock to send it to the half at a 6-3 MU advantage.
  • Bridgewater struck first to start the second half after forcing a Marymount turnover in the Saints defensive end. Jake Wagner found the back of the net to cut the Marymount lead to just a pair with 12:15 to go in the frame. Marymount replied with a tally two minutes later and killed off a BC man-advantage to keep it a three-gaol game. The Eagles struck back at even strength as Owne Cogan capitalized from the wing to cut the lead back down to a pair at 7-5. BC kept rolling as a Marymount turnover in its own end led to an Issac Beals score to make it a 7-6 game with 4:24 to play in the third. With its back to the wall, MU responded. A pair of MU goals in the final three minutes of the quarter made it 9-6 for the Saints heading to the fourth.
  • The Saints caused a turnover in BC's defensive end and capitalized with a score under two minutes into the frame to make it 10-6. A MU turnover allowed Bridgewater to reply with 9:07 to play as Garbarino found Wendler to make it 10-7. Bridgewater earned a man-up opportunity less than a minute later, but MU fended off the chance. BC continued to have chances bu saves by Jacob Brooks in net for th Saints helped them hang on for the victory.
Match Notes
  • Wendler led BC on the offensive end with his hat trick on seven shots and added six ground balls. Ryan Addison caused five turnovers and tallied five ground balls for BC defensively, while Gabe Wallman made 10 saves in 58:25 in the crease.
  • Bryan Maguire had a day for Marymount with six points (three goals, three assists). Brooks made 12 saves for the Saints in goal.
  • The tams were deadlocked on the stat sheet including a 39-39 mark on shots. MU dominated the shot chart 27-13 in the first half, but BC held a 26-12 edge in the second half including allowing just three shots in the fourth.
