BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College men's volleyball head coach Colton Frey has announced the addition of Nolan Hurrell to the staff as an assistant coach.
"I am so excited to bring Nolan on board as the first assistant coach in program history," said coach Frey. "He fits the cultural mission of our team, has a high volleyball IQ, and is detail oriented. His energy and passion for our program are going to help push us forward as we go into our inaugural season."
Hurrell comes to Bridgewater after completing his nursing degree in 2023 from Western Michigan University. After graduation, Hurrell expanded his volleyball experience by becoming an assistant coach at University of Michigan Dearborn in 2024. He assisted with all phases of the program in accordance with NAIA, WHAC, and University rules, regulations, and policies.
Hurrell became familiar with scouting reports, analyzed stats on player evaluations and performances, and organized practice sessions. Hurrell also aided with the recruitment process utilizing film analysis, live game scouting, and various scouting platforms.
In Hurrell's playing career at Western Michigan, he was named an WHAC First Team All-Conference member, an AVCA NAIA First Team All-Region member, an NAIA honorable mention All-American, and a four-time Academic All-District member.
Recently, Hurrell took on the role of Program Manager at Ballistic Volleyball Club. He received optimal experience in developing detailed program plans for athlete engagement for all age groups as well as lead training sessions as a "lead" coach, ensuring each session is impactful and meets the developmental needs of participants.
Hurrell joins coach Frey in its first season as a program at Bridgewater College.
