Six Eagles Named VaSID Academic All-State

ASHLAND, Va. - Six Bridgewater College student-athletes were named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors Academic All-State Team announced by the association on Tuesday afternoon.

Mackenzie Cauthorn, Jade Buckles, Grace Warren, Mackenzie Young, Emily Smeds and Noah Hines were named to the teams, as they were selected based on their performance in the classroom and on the field of competition. 

Cauthorn had a record-breaking 2025 campaign for the Eagles on the diamond as she set the program's single-season shutout record with 10 clean sheets in the circle. The junior also tied the single-season strikeout record with 118 punchouts on the way to a First Team All-ODAC honor and an all-region nod. Cauthorn excelled in the classroom, earning a CSC Academic All-District accolade while majoring in Business Administration.

Buckles excelled both on the turf and on the track in the 2024-25 calendar year for BC. The junior earned a First Team All-ODAC honor in the fall as a key member of the Eagles' field hockey program. The Stafford, Va. native backed that up on the track as she garnered all-conference accolades in indoor and outdoor track, while also being named the conference's Track Athlete of the meet at the outdoor championships in Harrisonburg. Buckles earned the academic accolade after being named CSC Academic All-District while majoring in Elementary Education.

Warren was named to the team after excelling in the pool for the Eagles. Warren as named First Team All-ODAC at the conference championships in Greensboro. Warren broke two records at the league's championship weekend and posted 11 first-place finishes throughout the campaign. Warren earned the academic qualification after a CSC Academic All-District accolade and excelling in the classroom, majoring in Digital Media Arts.

Young and Smeds both excelled on the course for the Eagles in cross country competition. The Eagles duo both qualified for the national championships this season and posted top-15 times in the South Region Championships in the fall. Both were CSC Academic All-District honorees this season, as Smeds earned the honor, majoring in English, and Young in Liberal Studies.

Hines was a key piece in the Bridgewater secondary for his seasons in crimson and gold. The corner back earned a Second team All-ODAC honor this season and led Division III in pass breakups with 18 in 2023. Hines was also a CSC Academic All-District this season as he earned his degree in Health and Exercise Science.
