Women's Volleyball Dismantles Hollins in Straight Sets

ROANOKE, Va. - Bridgewater women's volleyball took care of business Wednesday night in the first ODAC matchup of the season, winning in straight sets over Hollins on the road.

The Eagles swept Hollins in three sets in the midweek matchup.

The Basics

Score: Bridgewater (BCE) 3, Hollins (HU) 0

Records: BCE (5-3 Overall, 1-0 ODAC), HU (3-5 Overall, 0-1 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • Bridgewater did not give much breathing room for Hollins and continued to attack effectively. In the first set, the Eagles rolled to a five-point scoring rally, making the score 11-2. Many errant executions from Hollins made it more feasible to jump on an even larger lead. Reagan Stoop got into the rallies with a thunderous rocket, while Claire Griffith and Faith DePew followed suit with promising strikes too. The Eagles closed out the first set, 25-11.

  • In the second set, BCE quickly erupted going on a five-point offensive barrage. The Eagles dominated the attacking offense and capitalized on Hollins' struggling set plays to finish out the set on a seven-point run to take the set, 25-13.

  • The same pattern in the first two sets happened again in the third set. As soon as the Eagles got going in the set, they did not lose the lead. Alexis Currie ripped back-to-back aces to break open the third set. Soon after, BCE continued to work off the high momentum plays to stay in full control with a dominant 21-11 lead after a service ace by Lindsay Kelley. The Eagles remained definitive in their actions and took the match with a final set score, 25-13.

Match Notes

  • Bridgewater started off points in a fiery way, nailing a whopping 15 service aces as sophomore Alexis Currie recorded a game-high four aces.

  • The Eagles more than doubled Hollins in assists with 26 assists.

  • Hollins struggled in attacking percentage with a -.133, respectively.
