The Basics
Score: (RV) Bridgewater 85, Guilford 72
Records: (RV) Bridgewater 11-2 (4-0 ODAC), Guilford 11-2 (2-2 ODAC)

How It Happened
  • Guilford got on the board first on a second-chance effort, but a Riley Corcoran score for BC evened the score. The two sides traded scores before a Jay Garcia three-pointer gave BC a 7-6 advantage near the halfway mark of the quarter. Corcoran picked up her second foul on the following Guilford possession, leading to her taking an extended stay on the bench, and the Quakers took advantage. GC rolled off a 10-0 run to take a 16-7 edge before a mid-range jumper by Autumn Gentry stopped the run. Jaiden Polston followed with a layup to bring BC back to within two scores, but Guilford outscored BC 4-2 over the final two minutes of the frame to take a 20-13 lead after the first 10 minutes.
  • Polston finished at the cup on a dish from Garcia to open the second stanza, but Guilford followed with a 6-0 run to stretch the gap to 26-15. Abbie Baker finished through contact to end the momentum swing, but the Quakers replied a moment later to swell the advantage. Garcia scored on Bridgewater's next trip, and an Aylin Humpherys takeaway followed to spark a 6-0 BC run to bring the Eagles back to within five points with 4:11 to play. The two sides traded scores before a Quakers' three-pointer broke the rhythm. The Quakers followed with a steal and a score, but three points by the Eagles brought the Eagles back to within seven points. Dunn drilled a three-pointer on the wing in the waning seconds of the quarter to make it a 40-30 advantage for the Quakers at the intermission.
  • Three points from Corcoran to open the second half got BC going before the two sides exchanged buckets on consecutive trips, with Guilford getting the last laugh. The Quakers ended the exchange with a five-point swing to swell the lead to 50-39, but that is where the game changed. Asia Wiliimas knocked down a pair of free throws on the next BC trip down the floor, and the Eagles rattled off an 11-0 run with contributions from Corcoran, Garcia and Polston as well. A Garcia make at the charity stripe tied the contest, 50-50, before Guilford took the lead back with a pair of makes at the foul line. Polston followed with a bucket on the other end to tie the game once again and Garcia was fouled on a rebound sending her to the line. The senior made both shots at the line to put the Eagles in front for the first time since a 7-6 edge in the opening period. A four-point Guilford swing put the visitors back in front by a pair, but scores from Polston and Baker sandwiched, around a GC free throw make, put BC ahead 58-57 heading to the final frame.
  • The two sides traded scores to open the fourth quarter, with Garcia doing the damage for the Eagles. Guilford got the last of the exchange and went on a short 6-0 run to take a 65-62 lead with 7:20 to play. Williams finished in the lane for the Eagles on the next score and sparked an 8-2 Eagles run to take a 70-67 lead with 5:12 to go. The fun wasn't done there for the Eagles as GC made one-of-two at the charity stripe and BC followed with an 11-0 run as all five members of the starting five contributed. Polston capped off what became a 19-3 swing off a dish from Williams to make it 81-68 with 2:07 to play. Bridgewater was seven-of-nine from the floor during the span, while the Quakers were just one-of-five and turned the ball over five times. Guilford replied with a pair of consecutive scores to draw back to within 11 with under a minute to play, but a Polston jumper in the final 30 seconds secured the comeback win.
