BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College men's basketball fell to Lynchburg at home in another ODAC contest Saturday afternoon by a final score of 91-73.
The Bridgewater College Eagles (BCE) have dropped to 6-13 overall and 2-8 in conference play, and the University of Lynchburg Hornets (LYN) moved to 11-9 overall and 6-5 in the ODAC.
How It Happened
Although balanced from the start, Lynchburg had the upper hand in second-chance looks and ball movement, allowing the Hornets to break away firmly in the first half. After the first media timeout, LYN began to initiate solid ground once it took back the lead at 8-7. LYN's Jamarcus Brown found the room to operate effectively while putting the Eagles at a disadvantage in defensive stops.
The Hornets extended the lead to double digits in firm control of pace and flow. The Eagles found themselves down 10 with under four minutes to go in the first half. Jahmir Brown worked hard to find his spots while cashing a three, but LYN was forcing inside seamlessly.
The ball movement stayed in control, and possessions were carefully strategized. The Hornets took the first half, 41-28.
In the final 20 minutes, the Hornets pressed on the gas launching them to a 16-point lead just two minutes in. The Eagles lost control of possessions repetitively and the Hornets pounced on each opportunity. Brown kept in stride with LYN's Brown, but the Hornets found ways to distribute effectively while nailing open shots from deep.
At the halfway mark, the Hornets laid more pressure to push a 21-point advantage. The largest lead of the day came with under four minutes to go at 86-60. The Eagle showed some fight at the end to lower the deficit under 20 with makes from Mous Diop. The Hornets safely held on for a final score of 91-73.
