Men's Soccer Victorious on Senior Day

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Riley Queen scored the go-ahead goal in the 69th minute as the Bridgewater College men's soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a 2-1 victory over Randolph-Macon Saturday afternoon at the Bridgewater Soccer Complex.

The Basics

Score: Bridgewater 2, Randolph-Macon 1
Records: Bridgewater 9-3-2 (4-0-2); Randolph-Macon 7-3-2 (3-2-1)

How It Happened

  • After defending two early Randolph-Macon corners, Bridgewater began building pressure of its own. Three Eagles corner kicks in less than three minutes preceded Kevin Polanco's unassisted goal at the 11-minute mark. The lead lasted just 34 seconds, however, as Davian Jackson answered for the Yellow Jackets to tie the match at 1-1.

  • The Eagles continued attacking after the equalizer. Braxton Sebastian forced a save from Ethan Chenoweth in the 19th minute, and Luis Ibanez sent an attempt wide shortly afterward. At the other end, Davis Bashore made two saves just five seconds apart in the 29th minute, denying Jackson and Tyler Oakes to keep the match level.

  • Bridgewater pressed for another goal before halftime, with Noa Denno and Anthony Medrano putting shots on target in the closing six minutes. Bashore stopped Jackson again in the 43rd minute, and the teams entered the break tied despite BC's 12-6 advantage in shots and 8-2 edge in corners.

  • The Eagles resumed their search after halftime, creating attempts through Ibanez, Sebastian, Trey Widrick and Connor Campbell. Widrick tested Chenoweth in the 60th minute, but the goalkeeper's save prolonged the deadlock.

  • Bridgewater finally broke through at 68:01 when Anthony Eugenio connected with Queen, who finished to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead. Eugenio nearly added to the advantage four minutes later, forcing another save as BC continued pushing forward.

  • Randolph-Macon searched for a late equalizer, but Bridgewater kept the Yellow Jackets from placing a shot on goal throughout the second half. Jackson sent an attempt wide in the 87th minute and another over the goal with 37 seconds remaining as the Eagles protected their lead and remained unbeaten in conference play.

Match Notes

  • Queen scored his ninth goal of the season, while Polanco added his second and Eugenio recorded an assist. Widrick led Bridgewater with six shots, and Bashore finished with three saves.

  • Jackson scored Randolph-Macon's lone goal and led the Yellow Jackets with seven shots. Chenoweth recorded five saves.

  • Bridgewater held a 21-11 advantage in shots, a 7-4 edge in shots on goal and a 9-4 margin in corner kicks. The Eagles improved to 4-0-2 in conference play.
