BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College football team fell to Shenandoah 17-0 on Saturday afternoon at The Stadium at the Jopson Athletic Complex.
Shenandoah received the opening kickoff and wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. The Hornets took advantage of an early possession, with Aidan McCloskey breaking free for a 34-yard touchdown run with 13:48 remaining in the first quarter. Carson Gallant added the extra point to give Shenandoah a 7-0 lead.
Bridgewater responded with a promising drive on its opening possession. Wyatt Jervis helped move the Eagles down the field with a 22-yard run, while Ethan Ross added a 12-yard carry. Parker Burke connected with Chris Crossland for a 24-yard gain to move Bridgewater into Shenandoah territory. However, penalties and a pair of incomplete passes stalled the drive, and Ben Bermudez's 39-yard field goal attempt sailed wide with 8:40 remaining in the quarter.
The Eagles' defense held Shenandoah without another score for the remainder of the first half. Bridgewater continued to move the ball offensively, putting together multiple drives into Hornets territory. Both defenses continued to limit scoring opportunities as the third quarter progressed. Bridgewater's defense forced a punt after Shenandoah crossed midfield, and the Eagles' offense was unable to capitalize on its next possession.
Shenandoah finally added to its lead midway through the fourth quarter. Gallant connected on a 22-yard field goal with 5:37 remaining to make it 10-0.
