Nationally Recognized Women's Volleyball Stings Hornets on the Road

WINCHESTER, Va. - Nationally recognized Bridgewater women's volleyball stung the Shenandoah Hornets in straight sets on the road Friday night.

The Basics

Score: Bridgewater (BC) 3, Shenandoah (SU) 0

Records: BC (22-2, 11-0), SU (12-11, 7-5)

How It Happened

  • Both sides traded side outs and momentum control to start the match. The Hornets pushed ahead first to take an early 10-5 lead, but shortly after changed gear and turned on the jets for a massive eight-point scoring surge. From there, the Eagles stayed in front for the rest of the set, and Nora Van Horn palmed the final point for a 25-19 opening set score.

  • SU did manage to crack the second set with the first point; however, the Eagles continued to fire away. Later in the set, BC used a strong seven-point scoring run to break away from the opposition as Agnes Alford and Reagan Stoop spiked hard to find open hardwood for a massive 19-9 advantage. Van Horn once again silenced the crowd with a stunning strike to close out the second set with a 25-12 set score.

  • In the third set, the Hornets maintained a lead for much of the set. Service errors and errant attacks set the Eagles back slightly, although that did not slow them down. BC got into a groove late in the set, ripping a seven-point burst to end the match as Alford pounded the final point for a 25-23 final set score.

Match Notes

  • Bridgewater led in total points (53), kills (34), aces (10) and blocks (9).

  • Lindsay Kelley had a stellar performance with 14 assists, seven digs and five service aces.

  • Agnes Alford put together a solid night with four total blocks and six kills.
