BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College men's basketball hung close with No. 2 nationally ranked Randolph-Macon in a 67-61 loss on senior night Saturday.
The Bridgewater College Eagles (BC) finish the season with an overall record of 7-18 overall and 3-13 in conference play. The Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets close the regular season with an overall record of 23-2 overall and 14-2 in the ODAC.
How It Happened
-
The Eagles clicked in the first half, leaving the Yellow Jackets searching for answers in the early going. Although the Yellow Jackets began with the lead for most of the first 20 minutes, Jahmir Brown and Carter Palmer kept attacking with offensive pressure. Palmer tied it at 13 apiece with a slick lay-in off the feed by Chris Suber. Then, Jahmir Brown worked hard in the paint to find the bottom of the net.
-
Although a six-point deficit at the five-minute mark, the Eagles kept working back into offensive set plays and cashed in good looks around the perimeter as Javon Jenkins swished a three to drop the deficit to three at 31-28. Palmer quickly knocked down a bucket in transition, and Maleek Richardson gently sunk a lay-up to take the lead for the first time of the night. The Eagles ended the half with a one-point lead at 32-21.
-
Despite the hard efforts to keep the Yellow Jackets on their toes and charging a four-point lead to open the second half, the No. 2 ranked Yellow Jackets got in rhythm and pushed out in front of the Eagles. BC hung strong with the lead for six minutes of action with effective playmaking from Richardson, Mason Ramey, and Jenkins. Lead changes soon took place halfway through the final 20 minutes as Brown snagged a layup to bring the Eagles back up while Mi'Kis Engram connected on a three-pointer to continue fighting.
