BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's basketball team fell to Hollins 54-51 on Saturday and secured a rematch against HU at home on Wednesday night in the ODAC Quarterfinals.

How It Happened
- Jay Garcia got Bridgewater on the board first, but Hollins nailed a three-pointer in response to take the lead. The two sides traded buckets until Aylin Humpherys sank three-pointers on back-to-back BC scores to take a 10-5 advantage. Hollins replied with a slow five-point scoring swing to tie the game with two minutes to go in the period, but a Jaiden Polston bucket gave BC the lead back. Hollins responded and took a short lead at 14-12, but Autumn Gentry drilled a three-pointer to take a 15-14 lead after 10 minutes of play.
- Three points by Hollins allowed the home team to take the lead, but back-to-back BC buckets gave it the lead back. Hollins tied the game on the next trip, but the Eagles responded with a 9-0 run capped off by a three-pointer by Garcia to take a 28-19 lead with under two minutes left in the half. The home team replied with a score and embarked on a 9-0 run of its own to tie the game, 28-28, at the break.
- Hollins took the lead after a make at the free throw line, but buckets by Polston and Garcia gave BC a 32-29 lead. HU responded with an 11-0 run to take the lead and stretch it to 40-32, forcing a BC timeout. BC replied in a big way as it did not allow a point for the rest of the frame. Six points from Corcoran and a Polston free throw made up a 7-0 run to make it a 40-39 Hollins edge heading to the fourth.
- Corcoran sank a pair of free throws to give BC the lead to start the fourth quarter at 41-40. Hollins responded with a score to take a lead by a point with 7:55 to play. It was over two minutes before either team scored again, but Polston gave the Eagles a 43-42 lead. HU scored a minute later to take the lead back at 44-43, and Corcoran sank a pair of free throws for the Eagles on cue to wrestle the lead back with 3:30 to play. HU scored back-to-back buckets to take a 48-45 edge with just north of two minutes to go, but Garcia replied for the Eagles to slice the gap to 48-47. Hollins made one-of-two at the charity stripe to make it a 49-47 lead. Corcoran was fouled with 88 seconds left and made both attempts at the line to tie the game at 49-49. BC got a stop and had the ball with a minute to go, but a Humpherys uncaused turnover gave HU the ball back in the tie game. Hollins earned a trip to the charity stripe with under a minute to play and made both attempts to take the lead. BC looked to respond, but Garcia missed her jumper, and the Eagles had to foul. Hollins made both attempts, and BC got the ball back, but missed again. Bridgewater sent Hollins to the line gain as it made just one shot, allowing BC to reply. Asia Williams made a layup with 10 seconds to go, and the Eagles fouled instantly. Hollins missed both free throws, and Corcoran got a shot off at the horn, but missed as time expired.
Match Notes
- Garcia led BC with her third double-double in as many games 915 points and 13 rebounds). Corcoran and Polston each scored in double figures as Corcoran broke the program's single-season free-throw record with her eight makes at the charity stripe.
- Holden and Russell led Hollins with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Three different Hollins players grabbed seven rebounds.
- BC held an edge in field goal percentage, but it was the turnovers that made the difference. BC turned the ball over 23 times compared to 14 for HU.
