BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's volleyball team fell to EMU and Shenandoah in the home tri-match on Saturday.

How It Happened
Match 1

EMU got the offense rolling early, and the Eagles struggled to find control. The Royals fired away eight straight points to start out the opening set. Later in the set, EMU continued to lay on the pressure with a six-point scoring run to stand in a comfortable position. The Eagles worked a five-point rally to show some fight including a pair of kills from Corbin Green, but EMU stayed well in control to take the first set, 25-14.

Similar to the first set, once the Royals kicked off the set with a strong scoring run, the Royals held control. BC stayed close through the middle of the set with explosive kills by Isaiah White and Seth Williams. However, once the scoring rally was put in place, the Eagles struggled to make up the ground. With a four-point run, EMU stood with a 16-9 lead. Aiden Weaver tried his hand at sparking the offense with a pair of kills late in the set, but the momentum stayed with EMU for the rest of the set to land a second set score of 25-15.

BC extended the set in the third set, challenging the Royals with back-and-forth offensive swings. Although EMU sprang ahead to start, BC stayed close and weathered short offensive runs. BC claimed the first lead of the set at 11-10 with the help of an attack error, but EMU quickly recovered. The Eagles launched a late-game charge tying at 21 apiece as Weaver swung back to strike a kill. The score remained tied at 24 apiece. EMU slipped by to take the final set, 27-25.

The Eagles showed an aggressive play style against the Hornets forcing tough points and longer rallies. BC opened with the first point of the match with a kill by Aiden Weaver. The lead stayed with BC through the middle of the set with the help of a three-point scoring burst. At 12-10 BC, SU caught up quickly. Later, the Hornets grasped the momentum swing using a seven-point scoring run to their advantage. SU claimed the first set, 25-20.

In the second set, the Hornets sprang out an aggressive momentum push. The Eagles hung in close throughout the set. The Eagles weathered a 10-point scoring run with a five–point run to quickly dampen the aggressive strike. Corbin Green and Tomi Visgaitis took turns ripping kills to tie the score at 22 apiece. BC forced an extended set as Weaver and Jeffrey Prevost battled at the net and successfully secured the set at 30-28.

The momentum switched back to the Hornets in the third set, leaving the Eagles fighting back for the rest of the match. SU strung together a four-point run to stand at 10-3. Another commanding scoring run took hold, and the Eagles were in an eight-point deficit. The Hornets closed out successfully with a 25-13 set score.

In the fourth set, the Hornets started with the lead from the very first point and challenged the Eagles in each rally. BC struggled to hold onto controlled momentum while SU built short scoring runs from the middle of the set to the end. Weaver and Prevost attempted a late-game charge and cut the deficit to one at 22-21, but the Hornets grabbed the next three points and secured the match in four sets with a final set score of 25-21.
