BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team fell to Lynchburg 7-0 on Saturday at home.
BC opened the match by taking the first game at all three doubles matches, but the Hornets swept the matches. BC's best fights came at the top spot and No. 3 as
Sarah Slagle and
Regan Witt, along with
Aylin Humpherys and
Kalin Rice, fell 2-6.
Ahead 1-0, Lynchburg did not let up going into singles. The visitors quickly clinched the match with four quick wins, but BC gave the Hornets all they could handle at No. 1 and No. 5. Slagle battled in a tight opening set before falling 3-6, 0-6 at the top spot. Rice had a lead in the opening set at No. 5 before dropping the opening set 5-7. She battled back to take the second 6-4, sending the final match on court to a match tiebreak. Rice led in the final stanza, before a late run by Lynchburg led to an 8-10 defeat.Â
Bridgewater is back in action on April 7 against No. 15 Washington and Lee.
