Men's Lacrosse Falls to #19 Generals

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team fell 20-8 to #19 Washington and Lee Wednesday evening. The Eagles dropped to 2-3 in conference play this season. 

The Basics 

Score: Bridgewater 8, #19 Washington & Lee 20 

Records: Bridgewater (8-4, 2-3 ODAC), #19 Washington & Lee (7-5, 4-1 ODAC) 

How it Happened 

  • After the beginning of the contest was pushed back due to inclement weather, the Generals got started with two goals in the first five minutes of action. Isaac Beals put the Eagles on the board with 8:38 left in the opening stanza on a dime from Luke Wendler. Beals found the back of the net again with 4:16 remaining to tie the game at two goals apiece. Washington and Lee scored once again, but Jake Wagner responded with two minutes left in the quarter to send the Eagles into the first break tied with a nationally ranked foe. 

  • The Generals floored the gas pedal to start the second period, as they went on a 3-0 run in the opening two minutes of game action. Tristan Lee and Beals scored over the next four minutes to bridge the gap to one. W&L followed with a goal, but Wagner scored his second goal of the evening with 3:45 left in the half to put the Eagles down one. The Generals notched a final goal with 2:35 left in the quarter, sending the Eagles to the locker room trailing 8-6. 

  • The nationally ranked Washington and Lee squad found a higher level in the third quarter, as they outscored the Eagles 6-1 in the period. The Eagles' lone goal came from Ryan Linn on an assist from Lee with 3:59 remaining in the period. 

  • W&L did not take long to add to their third-quarter run. The Generals registered two goals in the opening minute of the fourth quarter. W&L scored twice more before Wendler scored with 6:30 left in the contest. Washington and Lee scored twice more in the waning minutes. 

Game Notes 

  • Ian Cook played all 60 minutes between the pipes for the Eagles and recorded 15 saves. Cook also added four ground balls to his stat line. 

  • Wyatt McNamara caused five turnovers and scooped up six ground balls.  

  • The Generals committed 21 turnovers. This is the third-most of the nationally ranked Generals this season.
