Men's Lacrosse Falls to No. 7 Lynchburg in a Hard-Fought Battle

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team fell a nationally ranked Lynchburg squad in the opening round of the ODAC tournament Monday night.  

The Basics 

Score: Bridgewater 8, No. 7 Lynchburg 25 

Records: Bridgewater (10-8, 4-6 ODAC), No. 7 Lynchburg (15-2, 9-1 ODAC) 

How it Happened 

  • The momentum was on Bridgewater's side to start the meeting between the two teams, as the Eagles jumped to an early 3-1 lead. Riley Stewart drew first blood with 2:11 elapsed in the contest. Colt Short won the following faceoff, leading to a Luke Wendler goal to put the Eagles up by two. Lynchburg got on the board with under ten minutes to go in the opening stanza, but the Eagles quickly responded with a goal from Connor Warren. The nationally ranked Hornets found their footing in the second half of the opening period, scoring four goals in the final 7:53 to enter the first break with a 5-3 advantage. 

  • Lynchburg carried the hot hand into the second quarter, adding three more marks to their tally in the first four minutes of action in the quarter. Blake Sherin broke the BC scoring drought with 9:43 remaining in the first half to cut the Lynchburg deficit to four. The Hornets scored three more goals in a minute to push their lead to seven. A faceoff win by Short led to a quick BC goal from Beals to make it an 11-5 game. Lynchburg responded with five more goals to end the half. 

  • BC was scoreless in the third quarter. The Eagles mustered two shot attempts, but were unable to find the back of the net. Lynchburg scored four times to enter the final stanza with a 15 point lead. 

  • Lynchburg scored early in the final period to give the Hornets a 21-5 advantage. With 8:58 remaining in the contest, Isaac Beals scored on an extra man opportunity to break the BC scoring drought, and to break the single-season program record for man-up goals. Wendler found the back of the net minutes later on an assist from Beals to give BC their seventh goal of the night. Ryan Linn scored in the final minute of the contest to cap the 2026 season. 

Game Notes 

  • With his goal in the fourth quarter, Isaac Beals broke the single-season program record for man-up goals.  

  • In the final game of his collegiate career, Ian Cook made 13 saves in 58 minutes of action. 

Bridgewater finished their 2026 season with a 10-9 record. The team reached double-digit wins for the third time in program history.
