TYSONS, Va. - The Bridgewater College baseball team dropped both games in the second day of the ODAC finals round to Shenandoah and Lynchburg Friday night which ended their impressive conference tournament run.
 

The Basics 

Game 1 Score: Shenandoah (SU) 3, Bridgewater (BC) 2 

Game 2 Score: Lynchburg (LYN) 13, Bridgewater (BC) 3 

Records: BC (33-13); SU (34-9), LYN (35-5-1)

How It Happened 

Game 1 

• Both teams faced strong pitching through much of the contest. Neither team had scored a run through seven innings of work as 14 total runners were left on base between the two squads. Evan Bert struck out six batters while SU's Blaine Griffin pitched seven full innings with three strikeouts and 13 flyouts. 

• The Eagles threatened in the sixth with bases loaded and consecutive base hits from Zack Chadwell and Chandler Valbak to line up a potential scoring surge. However, the strong starting pitching got the best of the Eagles and were stopped short.  

• In the eighth inning, the Hornets broke open the score as two runners filled the bases and were scored in with the help of a three-run home run. The Eagles headed to the ninth for the late-game rally attempt. Bryce Suters shot a single up the middle to get the frame going. Trent Holland followed suit lining a single to left field. Nick Stavros cracked another single to bring in Suters. Jakson Walter then bolted down the first base path to beat out the throw from second to score in a second run and trim the deficit to one run. The pitching closed down the last final effort to slip by for the win. 

Game 2 

• BC changed the tides in the matchup against the Hornets as they got off to a fast start in the first inning. Zack Chadwell launched a shot over the right field wall to open the scoring. The Hornets did not take long to answer back as they tied the score with a home run in the second frame. 

• LYN pushed ahead in the fourth inning, powered by a three-run home run. BC struggled to gain traction shortly after. The Eagles mustered an offensive burst in the fifth inning as Jakson Walter laced a single to score Nick Stavros, but the Hornets quickly broke open the score with a commanding scoring surge in the bottom of the frame. LYN strung together seven runs with three coming unearned following a fielding miscue.  

• The Eagles got back to a scoring rhythm in the seventh as Zack Chadwell ripped a single through the left side to bring home Stavros. The Hornets continued to shut down the offensive threat as the Eagles struggled to bring in runners on base. The Hornets held strong on the mound with effective relief pitching. BC could not recover went down 11-3.  

Game Notes 

Game 1 

• The Eagles were limited to two runs off 11 total hits. 

• The first three hitters in the lineup for BC; Nick Stavros, Jakson Walter, and Zack Chadwell combined for five hits. 

• Evan Bert posted eight innings with three runs, six strikeouts, and just three hits. 

Game 2 

• The first three Bridgewater batters offered a spark in the second game of the day as Nick Stavros, Jakson Walter, and Zack Chadwell combined for seven hits.  

• The Eagles outdid the Hornets in the hits category with 10 hits to Lynchburg's eight. 

• Zack Chadwell finished the season with 14 home runs, which is the most for the Eagles for the second-straight season.  

Up Next 

The Eagles have been eliminated from the ODAC tournament and will await their chances of making an appearance in the NCAA tournament regionals round. More information to be announced at a later date.
