Late Game Heroics Push Eagles Past Seahawks

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Noa Denno scored with 2:22 remaining to lift the Bridgewater College men's soccer team to a 4-3 victory over St. Mary's (Md.) Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
  • The Eagles wasted little time getting on the board as Anthony Medrano scored his first career goal off an assist from Riley Queen just 69 seconds into the match. Luis Ibanez doubled the advantage in the eighth minute with his first career goal, finishing off an assist from Kevin Polanco to give Bridgewater an early 2-0 lead.
  • The Seahawks answered in the 13th minute through Nick Haney before Zach Blaum converted an assist from Franco Reyes in the 40th minute to pull even. Davis Bashore made two saves just 11 seconds apart late in the half, keeping the score tied at 2-2 heading into the break.
  • Bridgewater regained the lead in the 57th minute when Cole Dunbar found the net off Queen's second assist. Medrano tested goalkeeper Jordon Eckman again in the 67th minute, while Bashore denied Marco Mazzola in the 78th minute to protect the Eagles' one-goal advantage.
  • St. Mary's drew level again in the 83rd minute as Lucas Evans scored off an assist from Braden Kindred. With time running short, Denno delivered the decisive goal in the 88th minute, connecting with Queen to put BC ahead 4-3. The Seahawks earned two corner kicks in the final minute, but Bashore stopped Kindred's last-second attempt to preserve the victory.
Match Notes
  • Queen recorded three assists, including the setup for Denno's game-winner. Medrano and Dunbar each registered two shots, while Bashore finished with four saves.
  • Haney, Blaum and Evans each scored for St. Mary's. Haney and Kindred led the Seahawks with four shots apiece, while Eckman made one save.
  • Bridgewater scored on four of its five shots on goal. The Seahawks held advantages of 20-9 in shots, 7-5 in shots on goal and 9-0 in corner kicks.
