RALIEGH, Va. - The Bridgewater College field hockey team used a fast start to down Meredith 5-2 on Saturday.

How It Happened
- Bridgewater got on the board less than a minute in as Mollie Best connected with Lexi Francis for the game's opening score to make it 1-0. BC made it 2-0 a few moments later on a penalty corner. Mollie Best had her shot turned away, but Maylynn Watson fired her shot to the back of the net to extend the lead under three minutes in. Bridgewater continued to push as Casey Grell and Reese Davis had shots saved by the MC goaltender. Meredith had a few scoring chances and cashed in during the closing stages of the opening period as Ingenito fired her shot to the back of the net to cut the gap in half just before the end of the first.
- BC earned a penalty corner in the opening minute of the second quarter, but the Eagles' shot was blocked. Meredith flipped the field and rifled a shot that was saved by Rachel Adel. The two sides traded scoring chances until the midpoint of the frame. Carly Lindley fired a shot on frame that was turned aside, and Allison Casey made a second effort on the rebound, but it too was stopped by the Meredith netminder. Meredith had the half's final scoring chance, but a save by Adel kept the lead intact at the intermission.
- The Eagles added to the lead to open the second half. BC had a pair of shots turned away and earned a penalty corner in the process. The Eagles used a battery to get back on the board as Kiley Parker's pass on the attempt was knocked down by Fallon Dismukes, and Francis rifled it to the back of the net to make it 3- 1 under two minutes into the third quarter. The Eagles continued to roll offensively as they kept knocking at the door. Meredith flipped the field after a Reese Davis shot was saved, and Thaleia Khader stood tall in her cage with a pair of stops on her first test of the second half. BC had a plethora of chances late in the half, but the Meredith defense held strong until the final minute of the period. After another Mollie Best shot that was saved, Casey Grell earned a penalty stroke. One-on-one with the MC goalie, Grell took advantage as her tally made it 4-1 for the Eagles heading into the final 15 minutes.
- Mollie Best had the first scoring chance of the fourth quarter, but her shot missed the target. With under 10 minutes to play, Davis added to the lead. The rookie fired a shot that was saved, but she quickly buried the rebound to make it 5-1 Eagles. BC continued to push, including a Chevelle Claypool shot that was blocked. Meredith cut into the lead with under two minutes to play as Igneto scored her second of the afternoon, but it was too little too late.
Game Notes
- Francis tallied BC's first multi-goal game of the season with her two tallies. Mollie Best led BC with eight shots, while she and Davis tied for a game-high five shots on target. BC's goalie tandem combined for five saves in the win.
- Ingenito had both of Meredith's goals and led the Avenging Angels with four shots. Burdine made 15 saves on the 20 shots she faced between the pipes for MC.
- BC dominated the stat sheet, led by a 33-8 edge in shots and a 20-7 edge in shots on frame.
