Denton and Phillips Score to Push Eagles Past Yellow Jackets

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's soccer team scored twice in the first half and outshot Randolph-Macon 20-7 to secure a 2-0 victory Saturday afternoon, earning its first ODAC win of the season.

How It Happened
 
  • The Eagles tested Randolph-Macon goalkeeper Maeve Konstantoulas early, with Lily Hewatt and Laura Narby forcing saves in the opening eight minutes. Sophia Phillips provided the breakthrough at the 10-minute mark, scoring off an assist from Sienna Smith to put Bridgewater ahead 1-0.
  • BC continued creating opportunities, collecting all seven first-half corner kicks. Brianna Curro forced another save in the 25th minute before Kylie Denton doubled the lead with an unassisted goal in the 43rd. Erinn Lockard denied Ava Tischler less than a minute later, sending the Eagles into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.
  • Bridgewater increased its pressure after the break, outshooting the Yellow Jackets 13-3 over the final 45 minutes. Lockard stopped Natalie Moxey in the 50th minute before the Eagles generated a series of chances. Narby tested Konstantoulas in the 60th minute, and Phillips nearly added her second goal when her shot struck the crossbar in the 70th.
  • The Eagles kept Randolph-Macon's defense busy down the stretch. Curro and Maryn Harris forced saves just 33 seconds apart in the 73rd minute, while Curro and Sarah Farally added shots on target later in the half. BC limited the Yellow Jackets to one shot over the final 37 minutes to finish the shutout.
 
Match Notes
 
  • Phillips and Denton scored their third and second goals of the season, respectively. Narby led Bridgewater with four shots, while Lockard made three saves to record her second consecutive shutout.
  • Konstantoulas finished with eight saves for Randolph-Macon, including five in the second half. Moxey led the Yellow Jackets with two shots.
  • Bridgewater finished with a 20-7 advantage in shots, a 10-3 edge in shots on goal and a 14-3 margin in corner kicks.
