AT BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE

Steve Enright was named head men’s basketball coach at Bridgewater College on October 1st, 2019. He has since rebuilt the program into an ODAC competitor, improving the teams overall win total in each of his four full seasons leading the Eagles.

In 2023-2024, Enright guided the Eagles to a 16-10 overall record, and a 9-7 mark in ODAC play. The 16 overall wins mark the highest win total for the program since the 2004-2005 season, and nine wins in ODAC games achieved the program's first winning record in conference play since the 2008-2009 season. The Eagles finished tied for fifth in an extremely competitive ODAC that saw six different teams ranked in the national Top 25, four NCAA Tournament selections, two Final Four teams, and one playing for a Division III National Champion.

Throughout the season, the Eagles achieved several key wins, including a 75-56 triumph on the road over #20 Virginia Wesleyan. The victory marked the first win over a nationally-ranked team for the program since February 2nd, 2019.

Statistically in ODAC play, the Eagles led the conference in three-point field goals made per game (9.9) and offensive rebounds per game (13.0). Individual success followed team success, as senior forward Alec Topper and junior forward Aaron Oates were both named All-ODAC Selections. First-year point guard Jordan Cooper was selected ODAC Rookie of the Year after a strong freshman campaign.

The 2022-2023 campaign marked the Eagles first top-six finish in the ODAC since 2014, advancing to the quarterfinal round of the ODAC Tournament in back-to-back seasons. BC posted 13 wins, its highest total in six seasons, as well as a strong 9-4 record in Nininger Hall. Nine wins at home marked the highest home win total for the program since the 2004-2005 season. Sophomore guard Shod Smith and Topper were both All-ODAC selections. The consecutive All-ODAC selections of Smith and Topper marked the first time in program history that the Eagles achieved two back-back All-ODAC selections, which moved on to three-straight years in 2024..

In 2021-2022 BC advanced to the quarterfinal of the ODAC Tournament for the first time since 2014. The trip to Salem was clinched by a thrilling victory in the first round of the tournament over eighth-seeded cross-town rival Eastern Mennonite, the Eagles first win in a conference tournament game since 2010. Smith was named the ODAC Rookie of the Year, D3hoops.com Region VI Rookie of the Year and VaSID All-State Rookie of the Year. Topper was also named All-ODAC.

The 2020-2021 shortened pandemic season saw the Eagles finish 3-6 overall with the vast majority of the season being cancelled.

The Eagles closed the 2019-20 regular season by winning three of their final four to clinch an ODAC playoff spot on the final day with a road win over traditional ODAC power Hampden-Sydney. Senior guard Chandler Murray and senior forward Davrion Grier were both named to the All-ODAC team. BC finished 9th in the 13-team ODAC after being picked to finish last in the ODAC Preseason Poll.

Prior to being named head coach, Enright had a previous stint as associate head coach at Bridgewater College from 2015-2018.

PRIOR TO BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE

Prior to Bridgewater, Enright spent a season on the bench as assistant coach under coach Dan Earl at NCAA Division I Virginia Military Institute. During his time with the Keydets, Enright was the program's recruiting coordinator, signing a strong 2019 recruiting class led by SoCON 2019-2020 Rookie of The Year Travis Evee. VMI won its first SoCON tournament game since 2002-2003 with a victory over Western Carolina on February 23rd, 2019. Enright also was responsible for coaching guard play at VMI, helping develop Second Team All-SoCON selection Bubba Parham.

From 2013-2015, Enright served under coach Dan Hurley as assistant director of basketball operations at NCAA Division I University of Rhode Island. During Enright’s two seasons on the bench for the Rams, the program saw an improvement from 14 to 23 wins. In 2014-2015, URI earned a bid to the NIT, defeating Iona University at home before losing to Stanford in the second round of the NIT. Enright coached future NBA players Xavier Munford and Jared Terrell during his time with the Rams, as well as several other future professional players.
