Jason Asbell enters his second season with the Bridgewater College women's basketball staff in 2021-22 and will be the Eagles' head coach in 2021-22.
The 2020-21 squad went undefeated at 4-0 and was the ODAC's top seed during the regular season. Senior Ahlia Moone and freshman Jada Gross were named to both the All-State and All-ODAC teams.
Asbell came to Bridgewater with a wealth of coaching experience.
Most recently, Asbell was head coach at Division II Davis & Elkins College for 12 seasons. His teams produced back-to-back winnings campaigns in 2013 and 2014 for the first time in 28 seasons. His 2016-17 team won 19 games, the most victories for the program in 35 years and tied for second most in program history.
While at D&E, Asbell recruited and developed five 1,000-point scorers, including the program's all-time leading scorer Stephanie Wooten with 1,800 points. He also recruited Jamiyah Johnson who tied the NCAA Division II record with 24 consecutive double-doubles during the 2019-20 season.
Prior to his tenure at Davis & Elkins, Asbell spent two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at West Liberty University. West Liberty posted a 24-6 record during the 2007-08 season and received a bid to the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
Asbell began his coaching career in the Virginia high school ranks and took his first head coaching job in 1997 at Jamestown H.S. in Williamsburg as the girls' head coach. He was named the 2005-06 state coach of the year after leading the Jamestown girls to a 29-2 record and the Group AA state championship.
Asbell received his Bachelor of Arts in liberal studies from Thomas Edison State University. He received his Master of Science in leadership with a concentration in sports leadership from Duquesne University.
