Box Score Davenport University outscored the Eagles 47-26 in the second
half for a 71-61 come from behind victory in the finale of the Don
Glick Classic, Sunday afternoon at Bridgewater College.
BC led by 11, 35-24 at the half thanks to an excellent defensive
effort in which they held the Panthers to only 32.1% shooting from
the floor.
The second half however turned out to be a reversal of roles as the
Eagles went cold from the field, shooting only 23.8% from the floor
and failing to convert on multiple chances from the charity stripe.
Conversely, Kale Waaso got hot at just the right time for the
Panthers as he scored 20 of his game high 23 points in the second
half to spark Davenport to the win.
Junior guard Dominic Trawick was the only Eagle to reach double
figures for the second straight game, finishing with 20 points.
Trawick also led the Eagles in rebounding, collecting 6 caroms.
For the visiting Panthers, Nathan Cox added 19 points and Tyler
Moreland contributed 11 points to go along with Waaso's 23
points.
The Eagles are now 2-3 on the season after the loss and will host
Southern Virginia University on Tuesday in a non-conference
matchup. Davenport improved their record to 7-1 overall.
In the first game Sunday afternoon, Ferrum College routed Eastern
Mennonite University 85-66 to improve to 3-2 on the season. Four
Panthers scored in double figures led by Derek Mitchell with 18
points. Mitchell also collected 13 rebounds. George Johnson was the
leading scorer for the Royals with 16 points as EMU dropped to 3-2
on the season.
The all-tournament team chosen by the working media included George
Johnson of EMU, Dominic Trawick of Bridgewater, Keith Crump and
Derek Mitchell of Ferrum, and Nathan Cox of Davenport. Kale Waaso
of Davenport was named the Most Outstanding Player of the
tournament.
