Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. - On Senior Day for the
Bridgewater Eagles (8-8) It was Shenandoah (7-8) scoring the game's
first goal and last goal, but it was all BC in the middle of the
contest as the Eagles sent the seniors away from Mapp Field in
style with a 4-3 victory.
Shenandoah got on the board at the 10:23 mark when a Paola
Aguilar pass found the back of the net off of a Casey Hertel shot
to give the visiting Hornets a 1-0 lead.
Bridgewater answered 12 minutes later when senior forward
Christina Pybus netted the equalizer at the 22:55 mark to knot
the game at one a piece.
Pybus then netted her second goal of the game off of a pass from
junior Brianna Jacques, to put BC ahead by a 2-1 margin. Pybus'
second goal was her 12th of the year.
Bridgewater came out of the intermission on fire when junior
Kalah Hess notched her first of two second half goals off of a pass
from Kristen Combs to extend BC's advantage to 3-1.
Shenandoah would answer BC's third goal with one of its own when
a through pass from Maria Payne caught the stick of Megan Garrett
and found the goal to cut Bridgewater's lead to 3-2.
Hess put the BC lead back to two when she took a Joan Burleson
pass from deep in the near corner and beat the Hornets keeper to
the near side to give BC a 4-2 advantage.
Shenandoah netted a late goal with two seconds left, but it was
too little, too late as the Eagles snapped their four game losing
streak with a 4-3 out of conference victory over the visiting
Hornets.
Hess' two goals led all scorers as the Lancaster, Pa. native
netted her fourth and fifth goals of the season to help propel BC
to victory.
In the cage, senior Elizabeth Sullivan picked up the win,
turning away six shots, while allowing three goals.
Shenandoah keeper Danielle Lawson recorded the loss, allowing
all four goals while turning away five Eagles scoring attempts.
The game marked the final home contest for Pybus, Sullivan and
BC defender Kelli Worst.
Bridgewater rounds out the regular season on Saturday when the
team travels to Roanoke, with game-time being slated for a 6:00
p.m. start. BC currently sits one game out of sixth place in the
conference and is in a must-win scenario on Saturday for the team
to make the conference post-season tournament.
