BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Washington and Lee's James
Pymm scored on a penalty kick with 7:35 left in the second overtime
Tuesday to lift the Generals to a 2-1 victory over the Bridgewater
College Eagles in ODAC men's soccer action.
The Eagles played the Generals on even terms throughout the
first half. W&L held a 9-3 edge in shots, but each team had
just two shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.
Bridgewater got on the board first when Shane O'Donnell found
the net from 15 yards out at the 16:59 mark after taking a perfect
pass from Ryan Morgan.
The Eagles held the lead until late in the first half when
W&L's Pymm scored with just 4:30 left on the first half click,
tying the score at 1-1.
The Generals held an 8-3 edge in shots in the second half,
including a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. However the Eagles defense
and keeper Jack Bottoms were able to withstand the Generals attack
as the second half ended with the score still tied at 1-1.
Washington and Lee put three shots on goal in the first
overtime, but the Generals were tunred away each time.
Pymm finally decided the outcome with his penalty kick early in
the second overtime period.
Bottoms finished the contest with nine saves while W&L
keeper Alex Lambert recorded three saves.
The Eagles finished their season with a 1-16-1 overall record
and a 0-9-1 mark in the ODAC. W&L improved to 5-6-4 overall and
3-5-2 in the conference.
