BRIDGEWATER, Va - After back-to-back road games, the
Bridgewater Eagles (6-2, 3-1 ODAC) football team returns home to
Jopson Field on Saturday for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference
(ODAC) clash with the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets (5-3, 3-1
ODAC).
Bridgewater comes into this weekend's ODAC clash on a three-game
unbeaten streak, while the Yellow Jackets have won five of their
last six contests.
Last week, Randolph-Macon fell at Guilford to drop itself and BC
out of the ODAC championship hunt.
Randolph-Macon is led by quarterback Austin Faulkner. Last
season in Ashland, Faulkner carved the Eagles up with three passing
touchdowns and an additional two on the ground to lead the Yellow
Jackets to a 40-18 victory over the Eagles.
This season, Faulkner has thrown for over 1200 yards and eight
scores, including three to his main target, Earl Peoples. People
has 57 catches on the year for 857 yards, both of which lead the
ODAC.
Peoples, a junior from Hampton, Virginia, caught an ODAC record
20 passes for an Randolph-Macon school record 295 yards as the
Yellow Jackets held off Washington and Lee, 21-13, in Ashland on
October 4. Peoples' 20 catches accounted for every completion that
Faulkner threw against the Generals.
Bridgewater's offense continues to impress, with junior Thomas
Tate's five-straight 100 yard games leading the way. Tate has
cruised to six 100 yard rushing games on the year and 955 yards
overall.
Through the air, quarterback Hagan Driskell has shown
improvement over the last three weeks with the junior only throwing
one interception over the last trio of games. Driskell threw for
three touchdowns last week and 200 yards.
Driskell's main target, junior Tyler Beiler hauled in eight
passes for 108 yards and three touchdowns in last week's thrilling
victory over Washington and Lee en route to ODAC Offensive Player
of the Week honors.
Beiler tallied both of Bridgewater's last two scores of the
game, including a 73 yard strike in the middle of the fourth and a
20 yard pitch and catch in overtime. Beiler currently second in the
ODAC in receiving yards (671) and receiving touchdowns (7), and is
third in total receptions (39).
The opening kick on Saturday is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Jopson
Field. For fans who are unable to make it to BC, Bill Phipps and
Brian Shifflett will call the action live from on ESPN 1360 WHBG in
The Valley. The game will also be aired live on the internet at
