ROANOKE, Va. - The Bridgewater College Eagles
defeated Emory & Henry, 3-1, Friday in the quarterfinal round
of the ODAC volleyball tournament played at Hollins University.
The Eagles won the opening set 25-16 before the Wasps evened the
match by edging Bridgewater 26-24 in the second set. Bridgewater
took the third set 25-16 and then closed out the match 26-24 in the
fourth set.
The Eagles used a balanced hitting attack led by senior Erika
Dirnagl with 14 kills. Candice Guy, Katie Baker and Ashley Scott
added 10 kills each for the Eagles. Baker led the team in blocks
with four and Mandy Hill added three.
Tricia Davis dished out 45 assists and Casey O'Leary turned in a
solid effort on the back row with 25 digs.
The Eagles advance to the semifinal round at Hollins on
Saturday morning at 11 where they will meet top-seeded
Randolph-Macon. Randolph-Macon blanked Guilford 3-0 in the Yellow
Jackets first tournament match. The championship game is scheduled
for 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
The other semifinal contest will pit Roanoke, a 3-2 upset winner
over No. 2 seed Washington and Lee, against No. 3 seed Lynchburg, a
3-1 winner over Virginia Wesleyan.
