Junior Brianna Jacques tallied a hat trick, including the
eventual game-winner as the Bridgewater Eagles (2-0) field hockey
team cruised past the Hood Blazers (0-2) by a 6-0 score in today's
home opener at Mapp Field.
Just over two minutes into the first half, Jacques got the
Eagles on the board at a 1-0 tally, putting a shot past Hood
goalkeeper Anne Marie Hantman.
Following her first goal, the junior would extend BC's lead with
a goal at the 13:06 mark to put Bridgewater up 2-0.
With a 2-0 lead in hand, senior Christina Pybus belted a pass
from Leah Cossentino past the Hood keeper to put BC up 3-0 at the
17:32 mark of the first stanza.
Junior Kalah Hess would round out the scoring for the Eagles
with a goal at the 28:46 mark of the first half to put Bridgewater
up 4-0 as both teams headed to the locker room.
Eighty-eight seconds into the second half, Jacques tallied her
first hat trick of the season as she rocketed her third goal of the
game past Hantman to put BC up 5-0.
Pybus would add her second goal of the game in the waning
minutes of the contest to finalize the scoring at 6-0.
BC outshot Hood by a 19-6 tally and doubled up the Blazers in
penalty corners by a 16-8 margin.
Senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Sullivan (1-0) picked up the shutout
win. Sullivan turned away all three Blazer shots on goal to earn
her first victory of the season.
Bridgewater is back in action on Thursday Sept. 10 when the
squad heads to Mary Washington. Thursday's contest is slated for a
4:30 p.m. start.
