Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. - Bridgewater College turned
in a solid effort in Thursday night's Dig Pink contest to defeat
Eastern Mennonite in four games in ODAC volleyball action. The
Eagles won 25-13, 20-25, 25-11, 25-17 at Yoder Arena on the EMU
campus.
Teams across the country are playing Dig Pink games in an effort
to promote awareness and raise money in the fight against cancer.
Thursday night's contest raised $526.25.
The Eagles won the first game behind a strong team effort at the
net. Bridgewater hit for a .344 percentage and also had four blocks
to control play. Candice Guy
(Fishersville, Va./Waynesboro) paced a balanced hitting attack with
three kills.
Bridgewater broke open the first game with an eight-point run to
take a 14-6 lead. Katie Baker
(Strasburg, Va./Strasburg) sparked the run with three kills.
Bridgewater lost its edge at the net in the second game and the
Royals took advantage to even the match.
The offensive dominance returned in the third game. Ashley Scott
(South Riding, Va./Heritage) pounded seven kills to lead an attack
that posted a .375 hitting percentage. Bridgewater jumped out to an
11-2 lead and was never threatened.
Scott added six more kills in the fourth game as the Eagles
closed out the match with a 25-17 win.
Scott finished the night with 19 kills and hit for a .350
mark. Baker also had a strong match at the net, finishing with
nine kills and four blocks. Guy also finished with nine kills and
hit at a .429 clip.
Lindsay
Kallam (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) led the team with 34
assists.
Defensively, Guy and Casey O'Leary
(Quinton, Va./New Kent) led the team with 17 digs each. Mara Hogan
(Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) added a strong overall game with 10
digs, six assists and five kills.
With the victory, Bridgewater improves to 12-11 overall and 2-4
in the ODAC. The Eagles are back in action Saturday when they host
a tri-match with Marymount and ODAC foe Guilford coming to Nininger
Hall.
