HARRISONBURG, Va. – In a crosstown clash

out 24 combined hits to sweep the Royals in softball action at
Gehman Field. BC won game one by a 9-4 score before shutting EMU
out in the nightcap by a 9-0 tally.
Game one was a pitcher's duel at the onset before

after two EMU miscues.
Eastern Mennonite (7-6, 0-2 ODAC) quickly knotted the game up,
tacking on two runs of their own in the home half of the frame to

the fifth when her single to center field plated left fielder
Kristen Combs to put the Eagles ahead 7-2.
Bridgewater tacked on two more runs in the sixth off of another
Spinelli homer before allowing a pair of EMU runs in the seven, but
it was too little, too late for the Royals as the Eagles took a 9-4
victory in game one.
Spinelli led the Eagles at the plate with a 3-for-4 game. The

innings of action, allowing nine runs off of 11 BC hits.
Game two saw more of the same for BC at the plate, while
freshman Heather Jenkins remained nearly unhittable in the circle.
After a scoreless first inning, Bridgewater took a 1-0 lead in
the top of the second when a Spinelli double to left center drove
in Childress from first base.
Bridgewater continued to pour it on in the third when a Morris
double to right center drove in Thomas and second baseman Hillary
Rees. The Eagles rounded out their third inning scoring when a
Childress single brought in Morris from third to give BC a 4-0
advantage.
Freshman Heather Jenkins continued to mow down the Royals lineup
through three innings of play before the Eagles gave the newcomer
another insurance run in the fourth. Morris tagged her second
double of the game, this time to left field, to score Leah
Cossentino giving BC a 5-0 lead.
The two teams remained scoreless in the fifth, but Bridgewater
extended its lead in the sixth when Morris plated her fourth and
final runner of the game with a single, again rounding Cossentino,
to put the Eagles up 6-0.
Bridgewater rounded out its scoring in the seventh with three
runs.
Combs got the scoring started when she swiped home plate to put
the Eagles ahead 7-0. Thomas then rounded out the scoring with a
two-run blast to put the Eagles ahead at a 9-0 final.

outing. Morris drove in four runs on the game and scored another to
lead the Eagles offense.
In the circle, Jenkins (4-1) was lights out for Bridgewater
allowing only three EMU hits and only two Royal runners to get into
scoring position. The freshman has now tossed back-to-back
shutouts.
EMU was led at the plate by a trio of players with three hits.
