BRIDGEWATER, Va - The Bridgewater College
Eagles jumped out to an early 7-0 lead Friday against Frostburg
State and held on for a 12-6 victory - BC's first over the
Bobcats since the 1988 season.
Bridgewater took an early lead in the first half, racking
up seven goals while holding Frostburg scoreless for the first
18 minutes in the half. Erin Carwright led the scoring
with three goals for the Eagles with Noelle Najjar scoring
two.
Frostburg State got their first goal with 10:59 left on the
clock and made back-to-back goals with four minutes left.
Going into the half, Bridgewater led 9-3.
The Bobcats tightened down in the second half and held even with
the Eagles in scoring, with each team adding three more goals to
its side of the board. The Bobcats' efforts were
not enough and the Eagles earned their second straight
victory 12-6
Cartwright and Najjar led the Eagles in scoring with three goals
apiece. Caitlin Costello and Leslie Crawford each scored two
goals and Mary Robinson and Megan Bach finished with one goal
each. Cartwright, the all-time assist leader in
BC lacrosse, also had two assists in the game.
For the Bobcats, Taylor Cassatt scored two goals with Joanna
McIntire, Megan Dent-Carman, Rachel Frank, and Chelsea Feeney each
one goal.
Bridgewater goalkeeper Colleen Schwind recorded 18 saves in the
game. Tori Butts had eight saves for Frostburg.
Bridgewater is now 6-5 overall and 1-4 in the ODAC.
Frostburg falls to 4-4 overall.
Lacrosse action will resume on March 31, when the Eagles travel
to Sweet Briar. Game time is set for 4:30 pm.
