WINCHESTER, Va. - The Bridgewater Eagles
women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the year by a
7-2 tally over the Shenandoah Hornets in out-of-conference action
at the Lowery Tennis Courts.
In singles play, senior Megan Mathias got things started with a
6-4, 6-1 victory at number one over Briana Malley.
At the number two spot, freshman Olivia Stone picked up her
spring victory by an identical 6-2, 6-2 score over Caitlin Heston.
Shenandoah took its lone victory in singles play at number three
as BC's Morgan McGhee fell by a 6-4, 6-2 tally to Brittany Bascope.
Bridgewater swept the four through six spots in singles play,
with Ally McConaughy, Amanda Gorby and Emily Schweitzer all picking
up straight sets victories.
In doubles action, Shenandoah took down the team of McGhee and
Stone at number one singles by a tight 8-6 score.
At number two doubles, the Eagles tandem of Mathias and Gorby
pulled out an 8-5 win, while McConaughy and Schweitzer won their
second doubles match in a row, this time by an 8-1 tally.
BC moves to 1-1 on the young season and is next in action on
Saturday when the squad travels to Methodist.
