ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Two singles matches went
three sets and a doubles match went to the tiebreak, but it was the
Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team coming up on the short end
of the stick in a 6-3 loss at the hands of Elizabethtown
College.
Bridgewater took a 2-1 lead after doubles play as the number two
and three duos each picked up hard-fought victories.
Morgan McGhee and Olivia Stone were 9-8 (7-4) winners at number
two, while Ally McConaughy and Emily Schweitzer won their seventh
doubles match in a row with a tight 8-6 victory at number
three.
BC's number one tandem of Megan Mathias and Alissa Michael fell
in a close 6-3 decision at number one for the Eagles' lone doubles
loss.
In singles play, the Eagles fell at number one and two before
Michael posted an easy 6-1, 6-1 victory at number three.
Michael's singles win was the lone victory of the day for the
Eagles in singles play as the squad dropped the final three matches
of the day. The win for Michael was the 37th of her
career.
McConaughy turned in a tight three-set loss at number four in
the closest of the three defeats.
Bridgewater is back in action on Wednesday when the team hosts
Shepherd.
