Box Score 2 The Bridgewater volleyball team hosted Hollins University and
Goucher College in a tri-match on Saturday afternoon, winning both
contests.
Against Hollins, the Eagles opened the first game with a 25-9
win. Freshman Beth Soles
(North, VA/Mathews) had six kills as the Eagles opened a 13-4
lead. Hollins closed the gap to 10 but could not get any
closer.
After the Eagles took a 5-2 lead in game two, Hollins
battled back, tieing the score at 11. From there the team
traded points with Hollins going ahead 15-14. Hollins then
opened the lead to five, 18-23. BC battled back before
dropping game two, 23-25.
Candice
Guy (Fishersville, VA/Wilson Memorial)led the the Eagle attack
in game three with nine kills. After Hollins closed the gap
to five, 15-10, the Eagles went on a 10-2 run for a final of
25-12.
Game four saw another battle. The teams traded points with
no one able to gain control. After Guy's kill made the score
14-16, BC battled to a 17-17 tie. Junior Katie Baker
(Strasburg, VA/Strasburg) had a kill of an assist from Kai-Lynn
Stoker (Potomac, Md/Jack Britt) to again tie the score at
22. Baker then had a solo block and an assisted block with Lindsay
Kallam (Virginia Beach, VA/Princess Anne) to give BC a 24-22
advantage. The Eagles went on to win 25-23.
Guy led the Eagles in kills with 16 and in digs with 15.
Kallam had 35 assists.
In their game with Goucher, BC jumped out to an 8-2 lead before
the Gophers began chipping away. With the score tied at 16,
Goucher took the lead 17-16 and never trailed again. The
Eagles cut the lead to one, 22-23 but could not get any closer,
losing 22-25.
The second game saw BC dominate on their way to a 25-13
victory. The Eagls jumped on the Gophers 9-1 and GC could
never recover. The Eagles carried that momentum into game
three jumping out to a 10-6 lead. Goucher fought back and
closed the gap to three, 12-9. BC continued to build on the
lead and won 25-20.
In game four, neither team could gain a significant
lead. BG got up by as many as five at 9-14 but Bridgewater
rallied to tie the score at 14's and go ahead. After the
Eagles took a 15-14, they never trailed and went on to win
25-20.
Baker and Guy lead the Eagles in kills with 13 each, while Mara Hogan
(Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) had 22 digs. Kallam had a
career high in assists with 46.
BC improved their record to 9-8 and will travel to Virginia
Wesleyan on Tuesday, September 28th.
