Eagles Finish Road Trip With 3-1 Victory Over Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Bridgewater rallied after losing the opening game Saturday afternoon to defeat Guilford, 3-1, in ODAC volleyball action.

The Quakers controlled play in the first game, winning 25-16, but the Eagles responded to win the next three 25-22, 25-15 and 25-21.

Katie Baker (Strasburg, Va./Strasburg) led the Eagles at the net with nine kills and five blocks. Mara Hogan (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) just missed a double-double with nine kills and a team-high 17 digs. Casey O'Leary (Quinton, Va./New Kent) and Kai-Lynn Stoker (Potomac, Md./Jack Britt) also sparked the defensive effort with 14 digs each. Lindsay Kallam (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) also a had a big day with a double-double of 38 assists and 12 digs.

After losing the first game, the Eagles regrouped and the second game was close throughout. The score was tied 10 times - the last at 15-15. The Eagles scored the next two points to take the lead for good. Down the stretch, BC's biggest lead was two points until a kill by Bethany Doman (Strasburg, Va./Strasburg) closed out the second 25-22 and evened the match.

Bridgewater jumped out to a quick lead in the third game and never trailed. The Quakers stayed within striking distance and trailed by just four, 17-13, but the Eagles put the game away with an 8-2 run to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

Game four was another close contest. With the score tied at 15-15, the Eagles scored three straight points to lead 18-15. Baker put down a kill and served up an ace to highlight the 3-0 spurt.

Guilford closed the gap to on 18-17, but BC scored the next five points with kills by Cadie Castle (Mineral, Va./Louisa) and Doman and an ace from Kallam leading the way. The Eagles then held off the Quakers to close out the match with a 25-21 win.

The Eagles, winners of three matches in a row, are now 12-11 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
