Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. - Bridgewater College won the consolation game of the Hilton Garden Inn Invitational by rolling past Johnson & Wales, 85-41, Saturday afternoon.
"Of course, we wanted to get two, but it was good to see the guys bounce back and earn a split on the road," Bridgewater head coach Don Burgess. "We were able to jump on them early and we played well throughout the game."
The Eagles dominated play Saturday as they led 39-18 at the break and pulled away to the finla margin of victory.
Ronnie Thomas (Roanoke, Va../Patrick Henry) and Kenneth Waugh (Wytheville, Va./George Wythe) each finished the game with 14 points to lead the Eagles offense. It was the first double-digit scoring game for Waugh in his career. A total of 15 Eagles broke into the scoring column. Cody Griffith (Pembroke, Va./Giles County), Benaiah Wise (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale)and David Larson (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) just missed double digits as each finished with nine points.
In addition to the scoreboard, the Eagles dominated the statistical categories.
Bridgewater shot 42.4 percent from the floor, making 28-of-66 attempts. The Eagles defense limited Johnson & Wales to 21.7 percent shooting as the Wildcats made just 13-of-60 shots.
The Eagles also controlled the backboards by a 53-44 margin. Daniel McClain (Falls Church, Va./Marshall) led the Eagles with six boards and Larson added five.
The Eagles, now 2-1 on the season, return to action on Nov. 30 when they travel to Randolph College for their first conference game of the season.
