HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Behind a pair of doubles wins to start the match, the Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team won its fourth match in a row with a 6-3 triumph of Elizabethtown College in the team's final Spring Break contest.
The freshmen pair of Katy Bergey and Katie Gordon won their fourth straight match at number one doubles with an 8-4 triumph, before Olivia Stone and Brittany Wilson claimed an 8-2 win at number three.
Gordon and Bergey got things going for the Eagles in singles play as well. The Winchester, Va. native took a 6-0, 6-4 win at number one, while the Eastern Mennonite High School grad earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at number two.
In a mirror image of doubles play, Wilson and Stone were the other winners in singles action as well with Wilson claiming a tight 4-6, 7-5, 10-5, three-set win at number four, before Stone won a 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) decision at number six.
The Eagles now sit at 5-2 on the season and is back in action on Tuesday, March 15 when Randolph-Macon comes to town.
