SWEET BRIAR, Va. – After falling behind by a 4-2 tally through three singles matches, the Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team rattled off three straight victories to round out the match, earning a hard-fought 5-4 win over the Sweet Briar Vixens.
Bridgewater dropped the matchup at number one doubles, before rattling off back-to-back wins at number two and three to take a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
The duo of Ally McConaughy and Emily Schweitzer got back to its winning ways with an 8-5 win at number two, while Brittany Wilson and Olivia Stone picked up an 8-4 win at number three.
With the loss at number one, Katy Bergey and Katie Gordon's eight match win streak in doubles play came to a grinding halt.
Sweet Briar claimed the matches at number one, two and three singles, to put Bridgewater at a 4-2 deficit early.
Wilson got things rolling with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at number four to earn her ninth singles win in a row.
Sophomore Amanda Gorby knotted the match up with a 6-2, 6-2 win at number five, before Stone wrapped up the win for the Eagles with a three-set victory at number six. Stone's 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 win clinched the victory for the Eagles.
With the win, Bridgewater has now won eight matches in a row, including four straight ODAC matchups.
Bridgewater is back in action on Saturday when its hosts ODAC foe Virginia Wesleyan.
