BRIDGEWATER, Va. – In a rematch of a showdown from last week, the Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team, trailed 2-1 after doubles play but couldn't pick up a singles win as the Eagles fell to second-seeded Hollins by a 5-1 score at the Duchossis Tennis Center at Washington and Lee.
Bridgewater got its lone win of the day at number one doubles when freshmen Katie Gordon and Katy Bergey earned a tight 9-7 victory.
Hollins claimed the matches at number two and three to take a 2-1 lead as the action headed to singles.
At number one singles, Gordon fell by a 6-1, 6-4 tally to put the Eagles behind 3-1, before junior Ally McConaughy fell by a 6-2, 6-2 score at number three to push Bridgewater to the brink of elimination.
Hollins sealed the deal with a 7-5, 6-0 win at number four as Eagles senior Morgan McGhee fell to close out her Bridgewater career.
The matches at numbers two, five and six went unfinished.
Bridgewater finishes a record-setting season with a school-record 15 wins against just four losses.
