Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – Bridgewater volleyball senior Bethany Doman stood out statistically with 16 kills, five digs and three blocks in a 3-1 loss to Lynchburg College on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Megann Grimes recorded 10 kills for the Eagles along with five blocks. Senior Cadie Castle added eight kills and seven blocks.
Junior Lindsay Kallam tallied 36 assists and 12 digs. Senior Casey O'Leary chipped in 17 digs for Bridgewater.
Lynchburg's two setters, Rachel Turk and Brooke Moughon, had 20 and 19 assists, respectively. Aricquel Payne added 14 kills for the Hornets and three Lynchburg players recorded 10 digs each.
A kill from Doman started the first set off and the two teams traded points until another kill from Doman tied the set 18-18. Bridgewater earned the next two points to take the lead. Castle powered downed a kill for Bridgewater ending the set to give the Eagles a 25-23 victory.
Lynchburg came off the loss earning the first three points of the second set. The Hornets went on a run making the score 11-6 before a serving error started to narrow the gap between the teams and Bridgewater started to come back. Lynchburg went on another six-point run forcing Bridgewater to call a timeout. Bridgewater earned four points out of the timeout but couldn't raise the Hornets' lead and Lynchburg won the set 25-18.
The third set was neck-and-neck until a service ace from Lynchburg made the score 14-13. Lynchburg went on a run and pushed ahead by five points, but an attack error from the Hornets tied the score, 22-22. The two teams went back-and-forth but back-to-back kills from the Hornets propelled Lynchburg to a 26-24 set victory.
Lynchburg kept the lead the entire fourth set en route to a 25-15 victory.
The Eagles return home on Wednesday night for Senior Night against Washington and Lee at 6:30 p.m.
