HILTON HEAD, S.C – On the opening day of the PTR Spring TennisFest, the Bridgewater Eagles men's tennis team topped Elizabethtown by a 7-2 score.
Elizabethtown took the first doubles affair in top flight doubles action as junior Peter Hawkins and freshman Christian Lynn fell by an 8-6 tally.
Freshmen Brandon Larsen and Evan Stack took a 9-7 win at number two before the Eagles opened a 2-1 lead after doubles play behind an 8-2 win by freshman Mike Cable and senior Brent Floyd in number three doubles action.
In singles action, Hawkins dropped his match at number one singles in a three-set thriller. Hawkins fell by a 6-1 margin in the first set before taking a 6-2 victory in the second set. The Silver Spring, Md. Native then dropped a tight 10-8 decision in the third set to drop the match.
Floyd posted a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) victory at number two doubles before Stack claimed an easy 6-1, 6-2 win at number three.
Lynn turned in a 6-4, 6-4 victory at number four to seal the match before sophomore Sam Churchill took a 6-3, 6-4 win at number five.
Cable finished the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win at number six.
Bridgewater is back in action on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. against Wilkes.
