HILTON HEAD, S.C. – In their final Spring Break matchup in the Palmetto State, the Bridgewater Eagles men's tennis team fell by a 6-3 score to the Methodist Monarchs, snapping their two-match winning streak.
Bridgewater fell behind by a 3-0 score after the conclusion of doubles action. The Eagles dropped 8-6, 8-5, and 9-7 matches in a trio of tight affairs in doubles play.
The Eagles got back on track in singles play when junior Peter Hawkins claimed a 6-3, 5-7, 10-4 win at number one to give the Eagles their first singles victory before senior Brent Floyd posted a 7-5, 6-3 win at number two to bring the match to a 3-2 tally.
Freshman Evan Stack evened the match up with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at number three, before freshman Christian Lynn fell by a 6-4, 6-3 margin at number four to put the Eagles on the brink of defeat.
Sophomore Sam Churchill dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision at number five to hand Methodist the match, while freshman Mike Cable fell by a 6-0, 7-6 (6-2) margin in the finale at number six as the Eagles fell in defeat by a 6-3 margin.
Bridgewater is back in action on Wednesday, March 14 when the Eagles travel to Randolph-Macon for a conference affair with the Yellow Jackets. Action is set for a 3:30 p.m. start.
