BRIDGEWATER, Va. – In the team's regular season finale, the Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team moved play to the Bridgewater Indoor Facility and took down visiting Sweet Briar by a 5-0 score.
Bridgewater's victory runs its winning streak to nine matches to end the regular season, while inclement weather pushed play to the indoor facility.
The victory also secured the number two seed for the Eagles for the upcoming Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament.
In doubles action, the duo of Katy Bergey and Katie Gordon polished off the regular season with an easy 8-2 win at number one doubles.
At number two, the tandem of Olivia Stone and Brittany Wilson had an easy time en route to an 8-1 triumph, while the team of Ally McConaughy and Emily Schweitzer notched an 8-0 shutout win at number three to hand the Eagles a 3-0 lead heading to singles.
Gordon got things rolling for the Eagles in top flight singles action with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph to get Bridgewater to within one win of the match victory.
Bergey finished things off at number two with an identical 6-1, 6-1 win to hand the Eagles a 5-0 win.
The matches at three, four, five and six singles went unfinished.
Bridgewater, which enters the conference tournament as the hottest team in the league, will do battle with seventh-seeded Randolph-Macon when the tournament opens play on Saturday. Match time has yet to be announced.
