ASHLAND, Va. – The first Old Dominion Athletic Conference match for the Bridgewater volleyball team ended with a 3-0 loss to Randolph-Macon on Wednesday in Crenshaw Gym.

Bridgewater College now owns a 2-6, 0-1 ODAC record from the defeat by the Yellow Jackets'. Randolph-Macon remains unbeaten with a record of 4-0, 1-0 ODAC.

Senior Bethany Doman led the offense with 12 kills and a hitting percentage of .375, but junior Katie Long was not far behind recording 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .308.

Setter Kylie Graham tallied 18 assists for the Eagles, while libero Casey O'Leary chipped in 18 digs from the back row.

The first set remained even through a 15-15 tie, then R-MC went on a six-point run. Due to Bridgewater errors and two service aces from R-MC, the Yellow Jackets defeated the Eagles 25-18.

The Yellow Jackets came out strong for the second set and swept the Eagles 25-16.

In the third set, Bridgewater trailed 10-1, until Katie Long notched four kills putting the Eagles back in the set. A service error from R-MC late in the set put the Eagles within two points of Yellow Jackets at a 22-20 margin. R-MC took home the final three points with two errors from the Eagles and a final kill from Hillary Jessee to make the final score 26-24.

The Eagles home opener will take place on Friday at 7 p.m. against Emory and Henry.
