Box Score CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – In non-conference action on the road at Wilson College, the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team stuck two goals on the board in the second half to break a halftime deadlock en route to a 3-1 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Wilson threatened at the outset of the game, but it was Bridgewater getting on the board first at the 10:54 mark when freshman Rachael Loy netted her first career goal to put the Eagles up 1-0.
After the Bridgewater goal, the Phoenix stayed on the attack before netting the equalizer in the 30th minute off of a goal from Megan Schneck to knot the game up 1-1 which is where it would remain at the intermission.
Wilson controlled play on the offensive end in the first half, outshooting the Eagles by a 5-to-2 tally, and also owned an identical 5-to-2 edge in corners.
Out of the halftime break, the Eagles wasted little time in regaining the lead as freshman Taylor Prillaman took a pass from Caroline Augsburger and beat the Wilson keeper to put Bridgewater back up, this time by a 2-1 tally. Prillaman's goal came one minute and 44 seconds into the second frame.
The two teams traded shots for the remainder of the second stanza before Loy dished a pass off to Megan Gould and the junior gave the Eagles some insurance and a 3-1 lead with four minutes left in the contest.
Wilson had two more scoring attempts across the final four minutes but couldn't move any closer as Bridgewater earned its second win of the season with a 3-1 road victory over the Phoenix.
After a Wilson-dominated first half, the roles reversed in the second half with Bridgewater owning a 6-to-3 advantage in shots as the two teams both finished the game with eight shots.
Junior Jessica Balsano was stellar in the cage for the Eagles, making four saves to earn her second victory of the season. Wilson netminder Gina Weigold allowed three goals and made a trio of saves in the loss.
Bridgewater has a quick turnaround as the squad travels to Salem, Va. on Sunday afternoon for a non-conference affair with Sewanee. Action is set for a 2:30 p.m. start.
