Box Score 2 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Bridgewater volleyball team traveled to Elizabethtown, Pa. on Saturday where the Eagles lost two matches to the University of Rochester 3-0 and Elizabethtown 3-1 in the Blue Jay Classic.
Bridgewater drops to an overall record of 5-8.
Junior Katie Long led the Eagles with seven kills and senior Bethany Doman recorded nine digs. Megann Grimes also added on four blocks.
Lindsay Kallam tallied 12 assists, while Kylie Graham added on four and Lauren Johnson three.
Two Rochester players each recorded ten kills aiding in the victory for the Yellow Jackets. Li Xiaoyi tallied 27 assists, while the libero added 17 digs.
The first match was even until three kills from the Rochester front row that put the Yellow Jackets up by six points. The Eagles were not able to come back and the match ended with a score of 25-16.
Rochester pulled away from the Eagles in the third set with four back–to-back kills making the score 15-9. The Yellow Jackets took the last four points of the match with one kill and three errors on Bridgewater. The final score was 25-17.
The final set ended quickly with a score of 25-11 due to three kills from the Yellow Jackets and four errors from the Eagles.
Katie Long led the Eagles again during the second match of the day against Elizabethtown with 11 kills. Cadie Castle was not far behind recording 10 kills.
Libero Casey O'Leary tallied 22 digs from the back row, while setter Lindsay Kallam chipped in 34 assists.
On the winning team, Carolyn Lukiewski had 26 digs and Steph High recorded 21. Mary Clyne also performed well for the Blue Jays with 36 assists.
The first set was neck-and-neck until the Eagles pulled out in front with two attack errors from Elizabethtown and a kill from Castle and Johnson making the score 10-6. The Blue Jays came back to tie the match 13-13 and took the lead with a kill from Holly Bubb. Elizabethtown won the game with a score of 25-20.
Bridgewater came into the second set strong and took the lead with two back-to-back kills from Castle. The Eagles went on a five point run and won the set 25-19.
The third set the Eagles were not so lucky and the Blue Jays swept the game 25-19.
A seven point run led the Blue Jays to a 25-20 victory over the Eagles. Bridgewater came back for a five point run due to a kill from Kristen Trice, a kill from Maddy Carter, and three errors from Elizabethtown. The host school took the victory with a kill from Kelsci Scannapieco.
The Bridgewater volleyball team is back in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Wednesday, September 26th when they travel to Roanoke, Va. to take on Hollins University at 7 p.m.
