Box Score ROANOKE, Va. – Bridgewater College senior Cadie Castle led the Eagles to a victory with 13 kills on Wednesday night. The Bridgewater volleyball team defeated Hollins University 3-1 in Channing Howe Gymnasium.
The Eagles advance to a record of 6-8, 4-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), while Hollins drops to a record of 3-11, 0-4 ODAC.
Junior Katie Long tallied 11 kills for the Eagles, while Bethany Doman and Megann Grimes each chipped in seven, respectively.
Libero Casey O'Leary led the team with 28 digs, but not far behind were Rebecca Claytor and Bethany Doman who each recorded 17 digs.
Lindsay Kallam stood out statistically with 36 assists, 14 digs, and six kills for the night.
Hollins sophomore Lauren Hays recorded 16 kills, while Jessie Deese and Ally Reed both chipped in 21 digs each.
Bridgewater broke out in the first match strong with a 3-0 lead. Hollins came back to tie the game up 11-11. The two teams rallied until two errors from Hollins and a service ace from Long that put the Eagles up by 3 points. Bridgwater took the game with a score of 25-17.
Four attack errors in a row by the Eagles put Hollins in the lead 11-7 in the second set of the night. Bridgewater came back to tie it up 16-16 with a kill by Long. Hollins took the lead and the set 25-23 with a kill from Hays.
The Eagles swept the third set 25-12 with an easy five point run.
The final set of the night was a competitive rally until the 11-11 mark where Bridgewater started to pull away from Hollins with back to back kills from Kallam and Long. The Eagles took the game and the match with a final set score of 25-20.
The Eagles return to Harrisonburg, Va. on Saturday , but travel across town to Eastern Mennonite for a tri-match. The first match against EMU starts at 11 a.m. and the second match of the day against N.C. Wesleyan is set for 1 p.m.
