Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. - The Bridgewater men's soccer team picked up an important conference victory Wednesday evening as the Eagles blanked Shenandoah, 2-0.
The victory ended a two-game losing streak and improved the Eagles' record to 6-5-3 overall and 3-2-2 against conference opponents.
Ben Lewis scored both Bridgewater goals in the first half and the Eagles defense made sure those two scores would be enough to hold off the Hornets.
Lewis scored the game-winner in the 27tth minute with the assist going to Kevin Gidari.
Lewis tallied again in the final minute of the first half with a shot from just inside the box. Alec Utter recorded the assist on the insurance goal.
After being outshot 10-3 in the first half, the Hornets applied more pressure on the Eagles defense in the second half. The Hornets owned a 5-4 edge in shots in the final 45 minutes, but Bridgewater keeper Kevin Morris turned away four shots to secure the shutout.
Morris finished the contest with six saves while Hornets keeper Rodrigo Casteriana recorded seven saves.
The Eagles return to action Saturday afternoon when they host Hampden-Sydney in a key conference contest. Both teams will enter Saturday's game with identical 3-2-2 conference records. Game time is 4 p.m.
