BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Senior Megann Grimes notched a game-high 12 kills to lift the Bridgewater Eagles volleyball team to a 3-0 win in Friday night's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match-up against Shenandoah University in Nininger Hall.

Bridgewater came out strong in the first set and won 25-12 and never let up. The Eagles earned a 25-17 victory in the second set, followed by a 25-14 win to take home the 3-0 match victory.

The teams traded errors early on, locking the game at two before a kill by Abby Mills and a service ace by Grimes put the Eagles up 9-6, forcing a Hornets time out. Out of the stoppage, Bridgewater turned up the heat and Mara Hogan served eight straight points. Grimes, Maddy Carter and Lindsay Kallam notched kills during the stretch and Hogan added in an ace to boost the Eagles' lead to 21-10. A kill by Haley Smith forced the side out, but Bridgewater took advantage of late Shenandoah errors to win by a 25-12 tally.

In the second set, the two teams traded points before Bridgewater went on a 4-0 run with a kill from Grimes and an ace from Ashley Weik to put the Eagles up 8-3. The Hornets went on a run of their own and used a few Bridgewater miscues to lock the game at 10-10. Bridgewater earned the next four points with strong offensive efforts from Katie Long, Grimes, Hogan and Carter to push the lead to 15-11.

Shenandoah brought the game within two, 15-13, but the Eagles took advantage of a number of Hornets' errors and Chelsea Owensby chipped in a service ace to put Bridgewater up 20-13. The teams traded errors in the latter points before Carter pounded a kill to give the Eagles the 25-17 victory.

Bridgewater came out strong in the third frame and jumped to an early 10-2 lead before a kill from Jasmine Callahan forced the side out. The Eagles boosted their lead to 16-5 after a few Shenandoah mishaps and a kill from Kristen Trice to force a Hornet timeout.

Out of the timeout, Grimes notched three kills to give the Eagles a 22-9 lead and a Mills kill pushed Bridgewater to game point with a score of 24-10. Shenandoah cut the lead to 24-14, but Mills put the ball away for a kill to give the Eagles the 25-14 win and 3-0 match victory.

Grimes paced the offense for the Eagles with 12 kills and six blocks. Kallam chipped in five kills and 25 assists on the night, while Hogan tallied 11 digs.

For Shenandoah, Rachel Gross led with six kills and Callahan dished out 16 assists. Taylor Anderson notched a game-high 14 digs.

Bridgewater will be back in action Saturday morning as it takes on the Washington and Lee Generals at 10:30 a.m. in an ODAC match-up, followed by a non-conference tilt with Salem College at 2:30 p.m.
