LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team bounced back from its first loss of the spring season to defeat Randolph College, 7-2, Friday afternoon in ODAC play.
The Eagles jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play. At No. 1 doubles, Bridgewater's Katie Gordon and Brittany Wilson slipped past Anna Culpepper and Dina Velazco, 8-6. The Eagles also won at No. 3 doubles where Miranda Donovan and Rita Murphy def. Danielle Lewis and Emmalyn Snead 8-0.
Randolph salvaged a point at the No. 2 doubles spot when Patricia Verdezoto and Kaitlyn Kolster stopped Bridgewater's Olivia Stone and Jessie Mitchell, 8-4.
The Eagles controlled singles play, winning five of six matches to close out the 7-2 victory.
Gordon blanked Verdezoto 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 and Stone turned back Culpepper 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Mitchell downed Kolster 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot and Donovan rolled past Snead 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5. Jamee Hardison stopped Randolph's Lewis at No. 6 by a score of 7-5, 6-2.
Randolph's lone singles win came at No. 2 where Velazco defeated Wilson 6-3, 6-1.
The Eagles are now 9-1 overall and 2-1 in the ODAC. Bridgewater returns to action Saturday when the Eagles host Lynchburg College.
