BRIDGEWATER, Va. - One day after a tough 5-4 loss at Hollins, the Bridgewater women's tennis team got back on the winning track with a 9-0 conference victory Friday over Shenandoah.
Katie Gordon and Marla O'Bryan defeated Shenandoah's Shannon Allin and Molly Barb, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles. In the closest doubles match at No. 2, Bridgewater's Olivia Stone and Brittany Wilson turned back Amber Lake and Rachel Gross, 8-4. Bridgewater's Miranda Donovan and Rita Murphy completed the doubles sweep by blanking Amy Rapp and Hannah Johnson, 8-0, at No. 3.
Bridgewater swept the singles, losing a total of just 12 games along the away.
Gordon blanked Allin 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 while O'Bryan turned back Barb 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 2 singles slot.
At No. 3, Wilson took a 6-1, 6-1 win over Rapp. Jessie Mitchell picked up the win at No. 4 for the Eagles with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Gross.
Stone won the first set at No. 5 singles 6-4 before her opponent, Lake, retired from the match. Donovan closed out the victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Johnson at No. 6 singles.
Bridgewater is now 11-2 overall and 4-2 in the ODAC. The Hornets drop to 3-7, 0-7 in the conference.
The Eagles are back in action Saturday when they host Christopher Newport.
